Emily Jones is a tenacious wanna-be detective, who not only solves mysteries, but is happy to give firm direction to the life of her older brother Barrett (a talented, if easily-distracted young man).
Matthew is an inquisitive 10 year old who loves to tinker with things—often to the consternation of everyone around him. But when he isn’t breaking and rebuilding stuff, he’s helping Emily Jones solve mysteries around town.
Jay might call himself a bully, but it's only in his own mind. He likes to torment kids with his nicknames and attitudes, but most others don’t take him seriously. He is often his own worst enemy—getting himself into crazy situations of own his own doing. He sometimes hangs out with Vance King, though even their relationship can be adversarial.
