The new Possum Trot movie shares the true story of a community that adopted 77 children out of the foster care system. In this interview, we will explore that story, as well as encourage others to get involved in helping children in foster care.

Sharen Ford is a nationally-recognized child welfare consultant and the retired Manager for Permanency Services for the Colorado Department of Human Services in the Division of Child Welfare Services. She retired with 30 years of comprehensive work history with the department. She oversaw six programmatic areas including the Foster Care and Adoption Program and supervised a team of professional staff. Dr. Ford is the former President of the National Association of State Adoption Programs (NASAP) and the Association of Administrators for the Interstate Compact on Adoption Medical Assistance (AAICAMA). She currently serves as the Director for Foster Care and Adoption at Focus on the Family and is as committed as ever to raising awareness regarding the need for every child to have a quality family.
Bishop W.C. Martin has been serving as the lead pastor of Bennett Chapel Missionary Baptist Church since 1985. He is a passionate and well-recognized advocate for adoption, having been featured on a wide variety of radio and TV programs. Martin has also served as a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at churches and events around the nation and has received many awards for his efforts. He and his wife, Donna, have been married over 30 years and have six children (four adopted) and five grandchildren.
Rebekah Weigel is a writer and producer whose work includes the critically acclaimed short film The Butterfly Circus, which became a viral phenomenon, impacting countless lives around the world and winning over 35 film festival awards. She is a foster/adoptive parent who is passionate about reversing the foster care crisis in America. Toward that end, she and her husband, Joshua, have co-written and produced Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot (set for release in 2024), which presents the remarkable story of families from a small church in Possum Trot, Texas, who banded together to adopt 77 children from the local foster care system. Rebekah and Joshua have five children.
